The general basis on which we work with clients. Your specific engagement letter takes precedence over this page.
Last updated: 2 September 2026
This page sets out the general terms we work to. When you become a client, we'll also send you a written engagement letter covering your specific services and fee — if the two ever disagree, your engagement letter wins.
We work on fixed fees, agreed and confirmed in writing before any work starts. No hourly billing and no surprise invoices for anything covered by the quote. Work outside that scope — an HMRC enquiry, for example — is quoted separately before we start it.
Timely, complete and accurate information and records. Deadlines we quote assume you get us what we ask for when we ask for it; late records mean a late filing isn't on us.
Work carried out with reasonable skill and care, deadlines tracked and chased on your behalf, and a named accountant who knows your business rather than a rotating queue.
We keep client information confidential and only use it to provide the services you've engaged us for. See our privacy policy for how we handle personal data.
We hold professional indemnity insurance. Any limitation of our liability will be set out clearly in your individual engagement letter, not buried in small print here.
Either side can end the arrangement in writing, subject to any notice period in your engagement letter. You remain responsible for fees for work already carried out.
If something's gone wrong, see our complaints procedure.
Topato Accountants is in the process of registering for anti-money-laundering supervision. We'll publish our supervising body and registration details here once that's complete.
